Up To My Eyeballs In Debt

I was hanging with some great ladies yesterday and we were talking finances. I was spilling my truth about how I do struggle with materialism, and how at times I have to talk myself down from the spending tree. Sometimes I catch myself wanting something newer, bigger, brighter when I notice another person with a “better” object or situation. My girlfriend said….(which was pivotal), “They may have a new this or that, but are they happy?” Great point! If you’ve got newness, but debt who the hell wants that?! It causes stress and fake happiness. My family and I live a simple life, and I appreciate that. I have a VERY financially conscious husband that keeps us grounded, I LOVE him for that. My girlfriend also said, “I may not have the newest, but I find comfort in the fact that I look at our bank account and realize because of our choices we are very financially stable.” I agreed 100%, because I do the same dang thing with our accounts. What’s shiny on the outside is not always shiny on the inside. She told me about this commercial that came out a few years ago, and I had never seen it. I looked it up and had to share:
How many people do you know that are dealing with the same issues as our boy Stanley is in the video? I don’t know about you but, I don’t want to be Stanley. Yea his house is nice, his car is cool, but what’s in store for Stanley’s future? How do you deal with fighting the urge of materialism?
